Nigerian weddings are world-famous for their vibrant energy, cultural richness, and joyful atmosphere. With over 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria, wedding traditions vary widely—but they all share one thing in common: celebration.

Most Nigerian couples have two ceremonies: the traditional wedding, which honors their cultural heritage, and the white wedding, a Western-style event influenced by religion. The traditional wedding is often the highlight—featuring colorful attire, lively music, family blessings, and the symbolic bride price presentation.

Fashion is a big deal, with families often wearing coordinated outfits called aso-ebi, while the couple dazzles in richly embroidered garments and elaborate headpieces. From the Yoruba’s grand entrance and drumming, to the Igbo’s bride dance, and the Hausa’s intricate henna designs—each tribe brings its own flair.

No Nigerian wedding is complete without dancing, money spraying, and a feast that keeps everyone full and happy.

In Nigeria, weddings are more than a union between two people—they’re a coming together of families, traditions, and joy. If you’re lucky enough to attend one, prepare for a cultural experience like no other.

We celebrated S+M’s western wedding during a time when S’s family couldn’t travel from Nigeria to Canada, so this day was such a huge celebration of love and family.  Taking place in Cloverdale, British Columbia, it was an intimate and lively events shared with the closest of family and friends and so full of fun!!  I have loved getting to know this beautiful family and feel so absolutely honoured to get to learn and share in so many cultures through wedding photography!
